For better results, consult a qualified dental professional.

Need for Teeth Whitening

The enamel which provides the natural colour of your tooth can discolour or dentin. Tooth discolouration can occur due to various reasons. Though many causes can be averted yet there are some which we cannot control.

The major reasons for discolouration are:

  • Drinking tea, coffee, wine, soft drinks regularly
  • Cigarette smoking and tobacco usage
  • High consumption of fluoride during childhood
  • Damage of growing permanent teeth due to an accident
  • Aging can also lead to discolouration of teeth as the enamel gets more delicate exposing the dentin below. With age, the dentin may come in contact with various food and beverage and can discolour your teeth
  • Some medical treatments can also lead to discolouration of teeth

The process of Teeth Whitening erases the stain and makes your teeth look brighter. However, you should keep in mind that the outcomes may differ from person to person.

How Does Teeth Whitening Works

Your dentist will first capture a picture of your teeth which will benefit him to know the improvement of the treatment. This is also applied to analyse your tooth and find out the stains.

After checking the tooth, the dentist starts to clean the tooth. He will clear away the film on your enamel stained due to the food you eat or due to other factors. The whitening procedure starts after this. The whole process takes around 30-90 mins based on the thickness of the stains on your teeth.

Your dentist will enclose the gums and then put the whitening agent on the teeth. Certain whitening agents need laser lights on them and if your teeth are deeply stained then your dentist will recommend you to continue the procedure at home for a few days.

You can also go for a home whitening remedy, in this, your dentist will get an impression of your teeth and will create a custom fit mouthpiece. This backs the whitening agent to remain intact on your teeth.

One can also get over the counter whitening agents which is good enough only for the teeth which are not thickly stained.
